Josh Hamner ended his rookie ASA Late Model Challenge Series season with a solid fifth-place finish in the King's Ransom 300 at Memphis Motorsports Park (TN). Hamner was left wanting just a little bit more after the race though.
“That wasn't bad, but it wasn't what we wanted either,” said Hamner. “We go for wins and we were a little short today.”
Hamner had to work plenty hard for that top five finish though.
“The day presented plenty of challenges,” said Hamner. “It started when I woke up. I'm not sure if I had food
poisoning, a bug or the flu, but I wasn't feeling well at all. We still managed to qualify second and we ran in the top five all day. It was a strange race. We didn't make a single adjustment to the car all day. We just changed four tires twice. The car started off loose and then got better at the end of a run. It finally just got super-tight at the end. If it had stayed the same as it had on other runs, we probably would have won the race.
“This ends our ASA Late Model season and it's been a fun season. I can thank the Reuses enough for everything they have done this year and BDI Racing for helping out for this race. This is an expensive sport and without everyone's help, I couldn't do this.”
Hamner still has one race left on his schedule this year and it is a biggie. In fact, he didn't waste anytime after Memphis to start to prep for it.
“We're still going to run the Snowball Derby and as soon as we got home, we started working on the car for that. On Monday, we converted it back to a Super Late Model. We stripped it down, cleaned it and are now freshening it up and going through everything. I've had some crazy things happen at the Snowball Derby so now we check and go over everything on that car before testing and racing it.”
The 42nd Annual Snowball Derby is set for December 2nd-6th at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
