Josh Hamner might have had a new ride for this year's Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway in Opp, but it was the same old race for the Alabama racer.  Hamner finished sixth on a day where just making it to the finish was the most important thing.

“It was a typical Rattler day where only the strongest survived,” said Hamner.  “We got behind Thursday and we never recovered.  We started the race not really knowing what to expect.  I have been in these situations before so I knew if we could survive we would be ok.  We could just wait and get them at the end.  We made a ton of stops, we swapped tires, we made adjustments we did everything to make the car faster.   We ended up sixth, which I guess is not as bad as the last couple of years for us here.  It was just a typical Opp weekend.”
The track's choice of tire compounds for the weekend put Hamner a little bit behind.

“I don't think it was a good decision to go to the 2070's here at Opp.  I guess I am saying that because I didn't win.   we got behind on the tires early in the week, then we got behind chasing the stop watch.  We didn't really work on the drivability of the car.  The only way I could get the car to turn was with the rear tires.  I was just cooking them.”

The Rattler was Hamner's first race driving for the #12 team of Justin and Troy Drawdy.

“I would like to thank the Drawdys for the opportunity to run their car.  I wish I could have gotten them a better finish. They have one heck of an operation going. You can't ask for better people like them. Especially when they let you beat and bang in their racecar.

“The boss man Troy Drawdy told me I earned my keep today, so maybe we'll see some other races down the road.“
