Josh Hamner will be making his first trip this weekend to race at the Memphis Motorsports Park - which is the site of the ASA Late Model King's Ransom 300.
It will also be his final trip to race there, as the track announced it will be closing down after this race. It's not like Hamner needs any more incentive to win any race, but closing down Memphis in style is something that he would really like to do.
“Once it is shut down, you'll be remembered as the final person to win there,” said Hamner. “We are definitely taking our A-Game to Memphis. We
tested up there a few weeks ago and it was a very good test for us. So we are really looking forward to going back and seeing what we can do in the race.”
The race at Memphis will be the final event of Hamner's rookie season in the ASA Late Model Challenge Series. He will also be racing on a large (three-quarter mile) track, which has been a new experience for Hamner in 2009.
“We had a good second half of the season. The largest tracks definitely threw a curveball at me. There was plenty to learn, but we came along very well. At Nashville, a freak thing happened while we were running fifth [when Hamner got caught in a Peter Cozzolino wreck]. At Gateway, I was leading with two laps to go when we had an equipment failure. Before this year, we were clueless on mile and mile and a half tracks, but now we've had a big confidence booster on those tracks.”
The King's Ransom 300 is the biggest race of the season for the ASA Late Model Series, plus it will be televised during the off season on Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports Florida, and American One Television Network.
“All of the North and all of the South teams will be there and everyone is going to put a lot of effort into this race. It's also cool that the race will be on TV. Come wintertime, if you know that you were the winner, you'll make sure that the remote is handy and you can relive that day.”
