Hamner Racing Engines are built and maintained primarily for short track racing, concentrating in the race-intensive Southeast. We build and prepare motors for Super Late Model Series country-wide; Pro All Star Series (PASS); Hooters Pro Cup; FASCAR; Blizzard, Viper Series, CRA Super Series and many others. Our short-track motors are Ford and Chevy engines.
After working for his dad in an engine related business, Jeff Hamner ventured out on his own; with the help of Gary Bradberry (former Winston Cup Driver) and their team operation, Jeff set up shop. In 1996, Jeff began his own family business in McCalla, AL. His goal was to take the business to the next level by building short track/touring series racing engines. The company gained exposure in 1996 by winning the Hooter's Series Championship and NASCAR Southwest Tour. After six years, several poles, wins, and championships later, the business moved to a new facility on 4266 Grey Hill Road, West Blocton, AL.
One key to HRE success is the fact Jeff raced and won on motors he built. Beginning with Mini Stocks in 1983 through 1984, he then started again in 1987 where he moved up to limited late models. His endeavors took him throughout central Alabama where he frequented Birmingham International Raceway (BIR), Montgomery Motor Speedway, and Sayre which is a ¼ mile track. Jeff racked-up numerous wins during his racing career, having a 10-race streak at BIR one year, winning championships in both divisions and won Rookie-of- the-Year in both Mini-stock and limited late models.
Jeff understands even using all the latest engine building technology, the only way to truly test a motor is to race it. The results of having an R&D team to test motors were numerous wins in the Big-10 Series, Kendall Late Model series, Southern All Stars Late Model series, ROMCO Late Model series, WON the 2003 NASCAR Kodak Elite Southeast Series Rookie-of-the-Year Championship, WON the 2003 NASCAR Kodak Elite Southeast Series Championship, WON the 2003 Late Model Championship at MIS, swept the Snowball Challenge Series, WON the Southern All Stars World Classic two years in a row, setting new track records, and receiving numerous poles!
The company grew quickly in the past few years, and while growth is always something a business strives for, especially to enter into "high profile" racing such as NASCAR's Busch series, the company is not willing to lower its standards or quality. There's more to building engines than assembling parts. Rules have to be scrutinized and understood before an engine can come to life. Jeff feels moving into something like Busch would require having to give up what he's doing in order to get it right. He's not willing to do that.
